August VADA News
Hope everyone had a chance to attend the Vermont Antique Dealers’ Show at Stratton Mountain July 21st and 22nd. The dealers outdid themselves in presenting beautiful booths with many wonderful antiques for both serious collectors and those seeking a treasure for today. It was nice visiting with our many Vermont dealers as well as many of the dealers from out of state and meeting new VADA member/dealer Mark Keily from Ohio who set up for the first time at the show. As always, the show committee thanks everyone who attended and looks forward to seeing you again next year! Mark your calendars for September 9th and plan to attend the 13th Annual Norwich Antiques Show at the Norwich Historical Society. The show is from 10am to 3pm and admission is $5 (children 12 and under enjoy free admission). In addition to great antiques, there is live music, a raffle, and informal appraisals by William Smith from 1pm to 3pm. You can bring a maximum of 3 items and the cost for each item is $5. All proceeds from the show benefit the Norwich Historical Society. It can be a fun day for the whole family. The month of September includes the start of Vermont Antiques Week! You won’t want to miss any of these shows. From Thursday, September 28th through Sunday, October 1st there are 5 great shows offering a wide variety of quality antiques from dealers from all over the country. The week’s shows open with the Weston Antique show preview on Thursday evening and end with Antiques at Stratton Mountain and the Vermont Picker’s Market at Okemo on Sunday. In between there are shows in Ludlow and Okemo on Friday and Saturday, and Stratton Base Lodge on Saturday and Sunday. I’ll have a full schedule in next month’s newsletter. However If you want to mark your calendars now, you can check our website for the dates and times of each of the shows www.vermontantiquesdealers.com We are lucky here in Vermont to have many fine antique centers in various parts of the state. The following are some you may want to visit and I’ve included some of their offerings. As you travel through the southern part of the state you can stop at the Windham Antique Center in Bellows Falls where you’ll find furniture, paintings, and decorative arts. Follow that with a stop at Stone House in Chester where 95 dealers offer a wide variety of interesting country and primitive antiques and collectibles. If you’re heading north from Chester, you can continue on up to Middlebury and visit the Middlebury Antique Center which offers antiques from over 50 dealers specializing in primitives, country, folk art, jewelry, prints, and paintings. If you find yourself up near Burlington you can go to Vintage Inspired and Barge Canal Antiques for antiques and vintage goods. In Essex Junction you’ll find Five Corners Antiques. Five Corners has 45 dealers offering primitives and country through mid-century modern. The Antiques Collaborative in Quechee offers a wide variety of formal to country antiques, paintings, and quilts. Farther north there is Sir Richard’s Antique Center in Waterbury Center that has a wide selection of American and continental furniture and furnishings. Many of these centers offer sale days on specific days of the week or month and special events during various times of the year. Most are open every day. All are listed in the Vermont Antique Dealers’ Association Directory or on our website www.vermontantiquesdealers.com Next month I will introduce you to some of the shops in our state. If you would like a copy or copies of the Vermont Antique Dealers’ Association Directory, contact Trisha Koptiuch, 164 Osgood Hill Road, Essex, VT 05452 or email your request to Trisha at h121657@aol.com Enjoy the rest of the summer and have fun antiquing! As always, I welcome hearing from you. Vesta Urband (vkurband@gmail.com)
