VADA News The VADA show committee met in April and plans are shaping up for another great show on July 21st and 22nd—the 43rd Vermont Antique Dealers Association Show and Sale. There will be about 40 dealers offering a wide range of fresh-to-the-market antiques. There are a number of changes to the show this year, starting with the venue: this year’s show is at Stratton Mountain Base Lodge; the days of the show have also changed: this year’s show is Friday and Saturday-- Friday, 12 noon to 8pm and Saturday, 9am to 2pm. Admission is $10.00. Food will be available in the restaurant on the second floor. This year’s show will be one not to miss! We’d like to welcome our new VADA members Mark and Sandy Keily, Mark Keily Fine Arts, from Dayton, Ohio. Mark and Sandy specialize in American Period furniture and American folk art and paintings. Theirs is a family business also involving their daughter, Jennifer. We look forward to meeting them all in July at Stratton Mountain where they will be participating in their first VADA show. Gail Laird of Halliday House, Napa, California has been a VADA member for many years. Halliday House is having a Barn Day Celebration on Saturday, June 3rd, 12 noon to 4pm. For those lucky enough to be able to attend, there will be refreshments served under the redwoods with lovely views of the vineyards. As if that weren’t enough, there will also be many wonderful antiques to buy. For a peek at what will be on offer, check out their website www.hallidayhouse.com or their shop on www.digantiques.com. VADA members Steve Thomas and Deborah Bassett have exciting news about the opening of their new shop/gallery, Steven Thomas, Inc., in White River Junction at 85 Gates Street. Deborah and Steve specialize in jewelry, silver, prints, woodblock prints and other works on paper as well as paintings and sculpture. Steve and Deborah participate in a number of shows in addition to the VADA show. The shop will open sometime around mid-May; tentative hours are 11am to 5pm, Thursday through Saturday. A call ahead is advised: 802-457-1764 or 802-291-3764 (cell). Website: www.woodblock-prints.com. Barb Johnson, Pewter and Wood Antiques, has posted her final numbers for the 11th Annual Alzheimer’s Benefit Auction she runs every year. This year’s auction brought in $11,200! Congratulations Barb and thank you for all you do for this very worthy cause. Also thank you to all those who helped Barb by their donations and purchases. We were very sorry to hear of the death of Janice Goodwin’s husband, Gordie, in April. Janice and Gordie had a shop in Johnson, the Victorian House, for many years. After moving to Middlebury, they did antique shows together for many years. Our condolences to Janice and her family. The VADA annual meeting/luncheon will be May 23rd at the Middlebury Inn. The board meeting is at 9:30, the VADA show committee meeting at 10:30, and the annual meeting of all members at 11:30. If you would like to attend, send $20 to Brian Bittner, 61 Front Street, Burlington, VT 05401. Make checks out to Vermont ADA. Hope to see you there! Remember to keep me in mind if you have news that you would like to share with our members. Vesta Urband, vkurband@gmail.com
