VADA January 2017 News

Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a great holiday and didn’t overindulge too much! It’s hard to believe that yet another year has passed. Best wishes for the New Year!

As many of you know, Mary retired from writing the monthly VADA newsletter. Mary has brought us the VADA news for many years and her voice will be missed. She has passed the “antique” baton, or quill pen as she called it, to me. Thank you Mary for many years and many columns! I have been an antiques dealer for about 25 years, first in Connecticut and now in Vermont. I am set up at the Middlebury Antique Center and at the Antiques Marketplace in Lake George. I look forward to hearing from you with news of what’s going on with you and in your area. You can contact me at vkurband@gmail.com.

Greg Hamilton, our recently retired president of VADA, is as busy as ever. We are all looking forward to his Cabin Fever show on February 18th , 10am to 4pm, at the Mid Vermont Christian School in Quechee, Vermont. The show is celebrating its 39th year. Greg told me that there will be 30 dealers and counted among them are several new out-of- state dealers. It’s always a great show and this year promises to be as good as always and one not to be missed. For information contact Greg Hamilton at 802-989-1158 or 802-877-3359 or www.cabinfeverantiquesshow.com Greg has been a dealer for 35 years and has a shop, Stone Block Antiques, in Vergennes where he has been for 17 years.

For those who have missed the Alice Peck shows in Lebanon, NH, now there is a new show in town-- the Lebanon Antique Show and Sale. Many VADA dealers were set up at the new show in West Lebanon, New Hampshire on November 20th at the Fireside Inn and Suites. They reported good sales and are looking forward to future shows. Good luck to the promoters, John and Elizabeth DeSimone. It’s always nice to have a new show!

The Antiques Collaborative in Quechee, Vermont is celebrating its 24th Anniversary with a sale—20% to 50% discounts. The sale is from December 27th-Januaury 8th. The Collaborative is open daily 10am to 5pm. They will be open New Year’s Day from noon to 5pm.

Sharon Boccelli & Company is having an auction on January 7th at 46 Canal Street in Bellows Falls, Vermont. For information, contact her at 802-460-1190 or www.sbauctioneers.com.

As Mary noted last month, the VADA website has been revamped and is up and running. We are also on Facebook so be sure to take a look. Brian Bittner, our new president, has done a great job on both sites.

On a sad note were two deaths. Jason Grant of Plattsburgh, New York, died on December 6th. He was a very talented folk artist and craftsman and died much too young at the age of 42. Our condolences to his family and friends. Robert “Bob” Arbuckle of Chester, Vermont, died on December 11th . He owned Bob Arbuckle Auctions in Chester for many years. Our condolences to his wife and family.

I look forward to hearing from you and am happy to be bringing you next year’s exciting VADA news.

Everyone at VADA wishes you all a great New Year—2017!
